FOOTNOTES : U.S. Cup Squad Is the Youngest

ROME — The United States has the youngest squad of the 24 finalists in the World Cup, and Ireland has the oldest.
The Americans, with midfielder Chris Henderson the tournament’s youngest player and only teen-ager at 19, average 23.6 years of age.
The nine players aged over 30 in Ireland’s 22-strong squad raised their average to 28.9 years. Only two other teams in the tournament, the Soviet Union and England, have squads with an average age over 28.
