BOSTON — Gov. Michael S. Dukakis relished his heritage but took a few lessons on the fortunes of politics when he met with Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis.
“This is a visit we will treasure,” Dukakis, a Greek-American, said Thursday.
Mitsotakis, who called the governor a “personal friend,” tried to offer Dukakis some solace regarding his failed bid for the presidency.
“Yes, it is true politics have ups and downs,” Mitsotakis said through an interpreter. “The circle goes up and down and changes winds.”
Dukakis met privately with the Greek premier, who had met with President Bush at the White House earlier in the week, and then was host of a Statehouse reception for him.
