Believing a burglar was holed up in a gun shop, Culver City police closed a busy two-block section of Washington Boulevard for more than four hours Friday, slowing the morning commute.

A sheriff’s SWAT team finally stormed the Martin Retting Gun Store shortly after 8 a.m. but found no one inside, Lt. Steve Weiss said. The incident began shortly after police arrested a burglary suspect as he left the store at 11029 W. Washington Blvd. carrying a load of guns, Weiss said.

The officers who arrested Remberto Argumendo, 35, of Los Angeles thought they heard someone inside the gun store, Weiss said. Police closed off a two-block area from 3:50 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. and called in the sheriff’s SWAT team, Weiss said. Argumendo was booked at the Culver City Jail on suspicion of burglary.
