More than 100 people aboard an Air China flight bound for San Francisco and then Beijing were forced to empty the plane Friday after the airline received a telephone bomb threat as the jet was waiting to take off from Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

A police bomb squad searched the 747 for more than 1 1/2 hours in a remote area of the airport after the 90 passengers and 15 crew members got off, but no explosives were found.

Sgt. Jack Dillard said the bomb threat was received by the airlines’ reservation counter at the airport about 12:40 p.m.
