Police Board Votes to Fire Sergeant for Misconduct

A Los Angeles police board has recommended the firing of a patrol sergeant involved in a brawl last year in a Burbank restaurant.

After a six-day Board of Rights hearing, the board recommended that Sgt. Christopher Bonilla, 32, be fired because of misconduct, Police Cmdr. William Booth said.

The brawl started after a patron, Robert Martinez, 29, of Burbank, walked by a table where six off-duty officers were sitting and knocked over a beer bottle, police said.

The officers began fighting with Martinez, and two cocktail waitresses, two bouncers and a bartender joined in. The officers allegedly dragged Martinez outside and kicked him, police said.
