Light rain dampened scattered areas of Southern California on Saturday, and weather forecasters predicted cloudy skies and light showers through tonight as fragments of Hurricane Boris sweep across the region.

The heaviest rain fell on San Diego, where 0.38 of an inch--a record for the date--was recorded and resulted in traffic accidents. Traces of rain were reported in other areas of Orange and Los Angeles counties. San Juan Capistrano recorded 0.18 of an inch of rainfall, while other cities received lower amounts. Anaheim received 0.02 of an inch, El Toro 0.10, and Santa Ana 0.05.

The coastal mountain ranges were expected to catch most of the precipitation predicted for today, said Steve Burback, of WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts to The Times.

The chance of rain in Los Angeles today ranged from 20% to 30%.

“It’ll be on the cool side and kind of wet for doing anything outdoors until the storm ends on Monday,” Burback said. “So it’ll be best to plan things you can do indoors.”

And although every drop counts, experts said the scattered light rain would not have a measurable impact on the region’s four-year drought.

“It’s going to feel muggy because of the tropical moisture in the atmosphere,” said Betty Reo, spokeswoman for the National Weather Service. “But that’s about all you can expect from this little storm system.”

Indeed, humidity was forecast to range from 60% during the day to about 90% at night.

Still, the unusual June storm conditions were expected to keep highs in the mid-70s in Orange County, falling to lows in the mid-50s and lower 60s. Along the coast, highs were expected to hover in the upper 60s, with southwesterly winds ranging from 15 to 20 m.p.h.

The skies are expected to clear Monday, with highs in the upper 60s to near-80s.

Surf today should be about 2 to 3 feet, with sailing breezes of 10 to 15 m.p.h. blowing from southwest to northeast.

The clouds and occasional rain spinning off of Boris, which was dissipating off the southern coast of Baja California, are expected to move out of the Southern California area by Monday afternoon.
