The maximum speed limit will be raised from 55 to 65 m.p.h. on an additional 74.5 miles of state highways as soon as signs are installed, Caltrans announced. Several new segments to be marked for 65 m.p.h. will establish a new total of 1,350 miles of California highways where it is legal to drive that speed. New Southern California 65 m.p.h. links will include 49.9 miles of I-15 from San Bernardino north to Devore and on the Baker Grade east of Baker in San Bernardino County, and 10.7 miles of California 99 north and south of Bakersfield in Kern County. The signs allowing the faster speeds are being posted now, Caltrans said.
