Australian Pat Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon men’s champion, received a wild-card berth for this year’s tournament--enabling him to avoid having to qualify.
Cash, ranked 142nd in the world after dropping to 626th because of a ruptured Achilles’ tendon, received one of 16 wild-card berths.
American Kathy Jordan, who reached the semifinals in 1984, was the only non-Briton among the women’s wild-card players.
