Blood Clot Hasn’t Derailed Steve Howe Comeback Plan

Former Dodger pitcher Steve Howe, hospitalized for treatment of a blood clot in his lung, apparently will be able to continue his attempted comeback.

“It looks like Steve will be returning to Salinas by Friday night or Saturday,” said John Jonas, the general manager of the Salinas Spurs of the Class A California League.

Howe is on the Spurs’ roster as he tries to make yet another comeback from drug-related problems.

“We really won’t be able to tell when Steve will be able to pitch again, and Steve won’t be able to tell, until he throws off a mound,” Jonas said.

“We’ll have to take a wait-and-see approach on that. Steve is speculating that he’ll be able to pitch again in a game in about three weeks.

“He sounds much stronger; he’s feeling much better. The doctor said the clot has continued to dissolve.”

Howe was admitted to the Antelope Valley Medical Center last Saturday.

The 32-year-old left-hander has a 0-1 record with Salinas but hasn’t allowed an earned run in nine innings of work while walking two and striking out 10.

Howe was in the Antelope Valley on Friday to deliver an anti-drug speech to junior high school students.
