Bomb Explodes by Home; Woman and Baby Unhurt

A mother and her baby narrowly escaped injury when a homemade bomb was tossed at their house, police said.

The mother, whose name was not released, was about to put her 18-month-old son to bed at 10 p.m. Tuesday when the bomb exploded on a patio outside her Los Angeles home, Detective Patrick Metoyer said.

“They had just passed the threshold leaving the room when it exploded,” Metoyer said.

The blast shattered windows and knocked metal framing and insulation into the room the mother and child had just left, he said.

Metoyer said police were investigating whether the attack was gang related. There had been no arrests as of early today.

Four other children, ranging in age from 7 months to 8 years, and two adults inside the house were unhurt, the detective said.
