Sweep Aimed at Gangs Produces 94 Arrests
More than 90 people were arrested over the weekend during a two-day roundup aimed at apprehending suspected gang members, Los Angeles police said.
During the roundup, which began Friday evening, 94 people were arrested in the North Hollywood and Foothill areas, nearly all for investigation of misdemeanors. Fifty-nine of those arrested were gang members, police said.
In addition to the arrests, police seized 13 firearms and 50 grams of narcotics, Sgt. Christopher Vasquez said.
The sweep included a “a major search warrant operation of 22 known North Hollywood gang members,” Vasquez said.
About 65 officers in the Foothill and North Hollywood areas participated in the sweep, which ended at midnight Saturday. Vasquez said the crackdown was not related to “Operation Streetsweep,” a national gang sweep carried out by federal agents Thursday and Friday.
