SIMI VALLEY : Expansion Studied for Senior Center
The Simi Valley Planning Commission will consider tonight whether to support a proposal to expand the Senior Citizens Center to provide more services for the elderly.
The proposed 4,000-square-foot expansion would cost about $489,000, most of which would come from federal block grant money, city officials said. The center is in the 3900 block of East Avenida Simi.
Cliff Snowden, chairman of the city’s Council on Aging, which proposed the expansion, said the center has run out of room to accommodate all the seniors who use the facility.
“There’s absolutely no space,” Snowden said. “About three-fourths of the people have to work out in the patio.”
Snowden said the expansion would include four new classrooms for arts and crafts activities as well as new restrooms. He said all the architectural plans for the expansion have already been completed.
If the Planning Commission approves the expansion, the issue will move to the City Council, which will make the final decision.
