The University of Illinois has filed its response to NCAA allegations involving the school’s basketball program, but the case won’t be decided until late summer.
The 11 allegations involve suspected rules violations in the recruitment of Deon Thomas. Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins is alleged to have offered Thomas $80,000 and a car. Collins and Thomas have denied that any offers were made.
Illinois will appear before the NCAA’s six-person Committee on Infractions Aug. 10-12 in Colorado Springs. The committee will hear the case and make its decision on possible sanctions two or three weeks later.
