State and county grants totaling $275,000 have been awarded to California Living Homes to purchase and remodel a residence in Norwalk for people suffering from chronic mental illness.

The state contributed $195,000 and the county added $80,000 in community development funds for the nonprofit organization, which provides affordable housing and training in everyday skills such as money management, communication, personal hygiene, meal preparation and recreation.

The house will accommodate six mentally ill people. It will be the third such residence developed by California Living Homes.
