From Times staff and wire service reports

A Highland Park man pleaded guilty today to charges of attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery in the shooting of Los Angeles Police officer Stacey Lim, who was seriously wounded in a shoot-out in which one of the suspected robbers was killed.

Arvin Peter Mani, 20, faces 11 years in prison after entering the guilty plea in Newhall Municipal Court as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Mani was one of five youths who followed the 27-year-old Lim to her Santa Clarita home early June 9, allegedly to steal her Ford Bronco. According to investigators who interviewed Lim for the first time this week, Mani was at the wheel of the youths’ car when Joel Valenzuela, 16, confronted the officer as she was stepping out of her Bronco and shot her point-blank in the chest. Lim returned fire, hitting Valenzuela four times, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives said.
