Emerging Ethnic Groups Face Bias, Study Finds

Share

Emerging ethnic groups with small populations are subjected to discrimination and often overlooked by service agencies, a report released Friday by the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations found.

The report was based on the testimony of more than a dozen community leaders at a public hearing held by the commission in February.

Represented were not only emerging groups in the county, including Central Americans, Cambodians, Iranians, Armenians, Somoans, Soviet Jews and Ethiopians, but also groups that have long histories of immigration to the United States, such as Arabs. The report said these people have encountered discrimination by government agencies, the media and society in general.
