Brader Claims 1st Street Stock Main-Event Win at Ventura

Lynn Brader of Somis drove to his first main-event win of the season in the Street Stock 15-lap race at Ventura Raceway on Friday night.

Scott Olsen of Ventura led for six laps before he lost control and fishtailed in Turn 4, allowing Brader to overtake him.

Olsen was second and Don Keeter of Ventura finished third and moved into the oval track season points lead over Jim Firsich of Port Hueneme.

Pat Garrety of Oxnard also drove to his first main-event win of the season in the Mini Stock 20-lap race.

Pat Davis of Port Hueneme had led for 13 laps before Garrety overtook him on the back straightaway. Marty Desbrow of Ventura finished second and Davis took third.

With the aid of a yellow flag, Terry Swauger of Ojai drove to victory in the Mini Stock eight-lap figure-eight main event. Russ Warren of Van Nuys had just passed Swauger on Lap 5 when Port Hueneme contestant Joe Silva’s car caught fire to bring out the yellow and put Swauger back on top; he then held on for the win. Warren was second and Forrest Nickerson of Santa Paula was third.

Oxnard’s Randy Gens drove to his first victory of the season, leading wire-to-wire in the Street Stock six-lap Figure-eight main event. Firsich was second and Olsen was third.
