The San Francisco Giants will have to pay rent to the city of Santa Clara if they build a stadium on city land, City Manager Jennifer Sparacino said. The National League team wants to use 120 acres of municipal property--rent free--to build a 45,000-seat stadium. Sparacino has proposed a $5.4-million annual rent. Sparacino gave the Santa Clara City Council a list of 13 conditions, including one that the team and stadium develop and pay about $60 million in costs to prepare the stadium site.
