California IN BRIEF : MERCED COUNTY : Ex-Officer’s Murder Case on Way to Jury

Jury deliberations are expected to start in Merced County Superior Court in the murder trial of former California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Emmert. Superior Court Judge William Ivie dismissed the jury for the weekend after closing arguments. Emmert, 48, is accused of killing his estranged wife, Judith, on Aug. 1, 1988, and attempting to murder his son, Robbie. Judith Emmert’s body was found in her car after the vehicle was pulled from the Delta-Mendota Canal. She had suffered massive head injuries.
