An 18-year-old Huntington Beach man was killed after his car rolled on Pacific Coast Highway and he was thrown out, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

Steven A. Navarro, traveling south about one mile south of Las Posas Road near Oxnard, died of head injuries shortly after the accident Sunday evening, said Deputy Coroner Mitch Bresse of the Ventura County coroner’s office.

His three passengers--Frank Canlas, 19; Thomas Lippold, 22, and Tricia Hill, 16, all of Huntington Beach, were treated for injuries and released from St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

The four were returning from a church function in Santa Barbara about 5 p.m., said CHP Officer Jim Utter.

Navarro was driving his 1978 Subaru at a high speed when he approached a 45 m.p.h. curve and rode onto the right shoulder, Utter said. When he tried to steer back onto the road, he lost control.

Navarro, who was airlifted to the Ventura County Medical Center, was not wearing his seat belt, Utter said. His passengers were wearing seat belts.
