Murder Charges Filed Against 13-Year-Old Boy

The district attorney’s office has filed murder charges against a 13-year-old Inglewood boy who allegedly shot a classmate to death last week after asking, “Do you think it would hurt if I shot you?”

Police said there was no dispute between the two boys and the shooting appeared to be accidental. However, the suspect’s question, which witnesses relayed to police, was a critical factor in filing the murder charge because it illustrated the suspect’s reckless state of mind immediately before the shooting, law enforcement officials said.

Lydell Carr, 14, was killed on the eve of the last day of classes at Crozier Junior High School, where both he and the suspect attended. The suspect was being held at Eastlake Juvenile Hall. He was not named because of his age.
