SACRAMENTO — After conducting a two-day whirlwind swap meet, the Sacramento Kings entered the NBA Draft today as the first team in league history to have four first-round selections.
Sacramento’s dealings left the Kings with the 7th, 14th, 18th and 23rd first-round choices.
“If we can’t do something to broaden our talent base now, I’d say there’s no hope for us,” said Kings player-personnel director Jerry Reynolds.
With head coach Dick Motta, who assumed Reynolds’ former position near mid-season last year, the Kings have worked themselves into a position to acquire point guard Gary Payton of Oregon State.
