SAN CLEMENTE : City Gears Up for Holiday Fireworks

Police and fire spokesmen say their departments will be ready for the 10,000 people expected to attend the city’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show at the San Clemente Pier.

The Police Department will restrict traffic in the Pier Bowl area to residents only between 5 and 10 p.m. on July 4. The pier will be closed starting at 3 p.m.

A 20-minute fireworks show will begin about 9 p.m. City officials said the municipal beach will be closed to the public from immediately after the fireworks display until 4 a.m. next Thursday.

Police Sgt. Richard Downing said the Police Department will deploy all its officers on July 4 in order to enforce city ordinances against non-professional fireworks and consumption of alcoholic beverages on the beach and pier.

Police and fire units will restrict traffic on the following streets: Corona Lane, Capistrano Lane, Santa Ana Lane, Alameda Lane, Coronado Lane, the 500 and 600 blocks of Avenida del Mar, the 400 and 500 blocks of Monterey Lane, and the 500 and 600 blocks of Avenida Victoria.
