When You Chip Upon a Star: There’s no question that Tom Cruise is a major star. But his star seems to be fading in Hollywood. Tourists have been chipping away at the actor’s star on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Hollywood Live nightclub, and removing chunks as souvenirs. Someone recently took a hammer to the center of the star and bashed it in about a month ago, and others have been gradually carrying away pieces. Laura Meyer of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said that it is apparently the first time in the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s 30 year history that fans have done more than step on a star. “Certainly, we don’t condone it,” she said. Cruise’s star will be repaired.
