SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The longest race of the Coors Light Silver Bullet stock-car series at Ventura Raceway--the 50-lap Firecracker 50 main event for Mini Stocks--will be run tonight at 8.

The main event will bring back the defending Firecracker 50 champion, Bill Floyd of Ventura. However, Floyd will be driving a Pinto owned by Ron Webb of Ventura because Floyd has sold his Mini Stock and now competes in the California Dirt Car series at Santa Maria Speedway.

Challenging Floyd for the trophy and a chance to pick up double season points in the race will be Mini Stock season points leader Chris Raschke of Ventura, Gary Curtis of Camarillo, Marty Desbrow of Ventura, and about 25 other drivers.

The drivers in the Street Stock division also will get a longer main event: a 25-lap race.

Heading an estimated 20-car field in the Street Stock division will be Street Stock season points leader Don Keeter of Ventura. Many of the Street Stock cars have been knocked out of the competition for several weeks because of accidents.

Qualifying starts at 7, followed by heat races and figure-eight main events.
