The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a 47-year-old San Diego County resident who was killed Friday in an apparent traffic accident on a rural road near the Riverside County line.

The victim was identified as Felipe Estrella Gonzalez, who lived in the small community of Rainbow, authorities said.

No one else was hurt in the incident, which involved only the victim’s vehicle, the CHP said.

Estrella was driving a pickup south on Rainbow Valley Boulevard at about 50 m.p.h. at 7 p.m., authorities said, when he lost control, ran off the road and ended up in a drainage ditch.

Paramedics tried to revive Estrella, but he was declared dead at the scene at 8:18 p.m., according to the county medical examiner’s office.
