Rules for Wine Train OKd by Assembly
The Assembly has approved legislation that would subject the Napa Valley wine train to review under California environmental law, overturning a recent state Supreme Court decision.
The measure, AB 4370, was sent to the Senate on a 57-7 vote after its sponsor, Assemblywoman Bev Hansen (R-Santa Rosa), said it was needed to help safeguard the famed Napa Valley from the effects of increased train runs that are luring more visitors to the already crowded tourist mecca. “I would like to protect the beauty of the valley,” Hansen said. But opponents argued that if the bill passed, all excursion trains--except the Napa Valley wine train--would be exempt from environmental review.
