Aspects of a Breakup: The curtain is coming down on composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s six-year marriage to singer Sarah Brightman. Lloyd Webber, who wrote “Phantom of the Opera,” “Cats” and “Aspects of Love,” issued a statement saying he had become “close friends” with another woman, Madeleine Gurdon. “It is clear to me that, with the greatest sadness, I have to face the fact that my marriage to Sarah Brightman is at an end,” he said. Brightman, 30, said, “I am deeply saddened that our marriage should end like this. It is not something I either wish for or have sought.” The couple, who have no children, reportedly had signed a pre-nuptial agreement that will determine how much of his $528 million she would receive. London newspapers said the split with Brightman, Lloyd Webber’s second wife, threatens to disrupt a multimillion-dollar film version of “Phantom of the Opera” that Brightman was scheduled to star in.
