Starting this week and continuing through August, the Laguna Art Museum will remain open until 8 p.m. on Fridays.

Museum programs this summer will include a panel discussion on early Los Angeles modernism, a lecture on the life and work of the late Bay Area artist Jay DeFeo, and adult sketching classes.

The panel discussion will take place July 14 from 4 to 6 p.m., when artists Jules Engel, Karl Benjamin, Lee Mullican and Hans Burkhardt will share recollections of Los Angeles as an art center during the ‘40s and ‘50s. The moderators will be Susan Erlich, co-curator of the museum’s exhibit “Turning the Tide: Early Los Angeles Modernists, 1920-1956,” and Paul J. Karlsrom, West Coast regional director of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution. General admission is $7 (valet parking included). Reservations are suggested: (714) 494-8971.

Admission to the lecture will be $4.50 general, $3.50 for students and seniors.

Art educator Rebeca Gacek will lead the hourlong adult sketching classes on July 11, 18 and 25 and Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. Admission, including materials, will be $6 general, $4 for students and seniors. Reservations are required: (714) 494-8971.
