City Manager Charles R. Martin, 66, resigned last Thursday night after nearly 17 years on the job.
Alfred F. Herrera, Martin’s longtime assistant, was named his permanent replacement. Herrera, 55, has served as acting city manager, including most of the last year while Martin recuperated from an illness.
Martin will remain Irwindale city attorney and city clerk. On submitting his resignation to Irwindale Mayor Richard Chico, Martin said of his accomplishments as city manager: “Irwindale is on the map and has plenty of money.”
