Closures Scheduled on Ventura Freeway

The state Department of Transportation recommends that motorists steer clear of construction-related congestion this weekend near the interchange of the Ventura and San Diego freeways, and instead use surface streets, particularly Ventura and Burbank boulevards.

To facilitate repaving, the northbound San Diego Freeway connector road to the westbound Ventura Freeway will be closed from 10 tonight to 11 a.m. Saturday, Caltrans said.

The connector roads from the westbound Ventura Freeway to the north- and southbound San Diego Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday.

On Friday night, up to three eastbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway will be closed between Hayvenhurst and Haskell avenues and up to three westbound lanes will be closed between Van Nuys Boulevard and Hayvenhurst Avenue.

Caltrans crews will also close the eastbound Haskell Avenue off-ramp, the eastbound Hayvenhurst on-ramp and the westbound Van Nuys Boulevard on-ramp.

On Saturday night, the westbound Van Nuys Boulevard on-ramp and the westbound Woodman Avenue on-ramp will be closed.

The closings are part of a $37-million widening of the freeway to 10 lanes from Universal City to Woodland Hills.

Completion is scheduled for early 1992.
