FOOTNOTES : Nearly a Million Cheer Parade Honoring Cameroon’s Cup Team

The Indomitable Lions didn’t win the World Cup, but they were greeted like champions in the nation’s capital city anyway.

Most of Yaounde’s 1 million residents, from toddlers to elderly women clutching bouquets, thronged the streets Thursday to welcome Cameroon’s national soccer team back from the World Cup.

The Lions, eliminated by England in overtime Sunday after becoming the first African team to reach the World Cup quarterfinals, returned to Cameroon on Wednesday. But the welcome they received in Douala was nothing compared to Thursday’s delirious reception in Yaounde.
