Fire Blackens 100 Acres Near Santa Clarita

The blaze burned about 100 acres of brush and grass just west of the Placerita Canyon State Park yesterday. No homes were threatened by the fire, which broke out about 9:45 a.m. south of the Antelope Valley Freeway between Placerita Canyon Road and Golden Valley Road, about 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Placerita Canyon Road was closed to non-emergency traffic. About 160 firefighters brought the fire under control at 11:10 a.m.
