A 15-year-old San Pedro girl died early Friday morning from injuries she received in an unexplained shooting nearly two weeks ago, Los Angeles police said.

Homicide Detective Roosevelt Joseph said Tamar Hamilton was pronounced dead at 3:55 a.m. Friday at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital, where she had been in the intensive care unit since the June 27 shooting.

The shooting, now under investigation by homicide detectives, occurred at 4:35 a.m. as the girl and a friend, Taesia Tapp, 15, of San Pedro, talked with others in a parking lot at 245 W. 2nd Street.

As the group stood in the parking lot, several shots were fired, apparently from a passing car, felling both Hamilton and Tapp, who suffered minor injuries.

No motive for the shooting has been established, Joseph said, but gang activity has been reported in the area. He said police do not believe that either of the girls was involved with gangs.
