OXNARD : Hearings Delayed on General Plan

Share

The Oxnard City Council has postponed consideration of a plan that will chart the city’s growth for the next 30 years because the Planning Commission could not complete its deliberation of the plan on Monday, city officials said.

The council has scheduled afternoon and evening sessions in the council chambers for today, Thursday and next Monday. However, council members expressed doubt Tuesday that the commission would complete its deliberation by today. Councilwoman Ann Johs suggested that, if needed, the council postpone its deliberation until August.

For the past year, the Planning Commission has taken public testimony on the plan from such groups as the U.S. Navy, the California Coastal Commission, city of Ventura officials and local slow-growth advocates.

The general plan, which will guide the city’s development for the next 30 years, has raised numerous objections, particularly over the amount of growth allowed under the plan.
