Korean Union Sues U.S. Employer: A South Korean union sued Pico Products Inc. of Liverpool, N.Y., in U.S. District Court in Syracuse, alleging breach of contract for shutting down its South Korean factory and withholding $1 million in wages from workers. The lawsuit accuses Pico of suddenly closing its television components factory in Buchun City in February, 1989, to avoid compliance with a collective bargaining agreement. Chairman Bernard Hitchcock has refused to negotiate a settlement with the union. He says union officials are “terrorists” who kidnapped a company management team, ransacked the factory and seized its contents, and extorted unreasonable contract concessions.
