One man was fatally shot and another injured when a fight broke out among members of two gangs outside a Panorama City bar early today, Los Angeles police said.

Police said about 15 men were leaving Doohinkey’s bar at 8929 Woodman Ave. about 2 a.m. when a fight broke out in the parking lot. An unidentified man pulled a gun and fired three or four shots.

Jason Jefferson, 22, of South Los Angeles was struck in the head by a bullet and Derrick Potter, 20, also of South Los Angeles, was shot in the hip. Jefferson was fatally wounded, Lt. Warren Knowles said. Potter was being treated at an undisclosed hospital.

No suspects were arrested in the shooting and the cause of the fight was unknown. Members of a gang from Pacoima and a gang from South Los Angeles had been in the bar but the groups had no history of being rivals, Knowles said. The gunman was believed to be a member of the Pacoima-based gang.
