Helen Bloore McCollum; Job’s Daughters Official

Helen Bloore McCollum, who helped found a Job’s Daughters bethel in Tujunga, died Friday in Valencia. She was 97.

Mrs. McCollum helped to start the girls’ organization during the 1950s, said her son, Jack Bloore.

She died of pneumonia and heart failure after spending several years in a Newhall convalescent home, he said.

Born Helen Louise Randall on July 20, 1892, in Kansas City, Kan., she moved to the Los Angeles area in 1918. She and her late husband, Charles Bloore, ran Bloore Dry Goods, a yardage store in Tujunga, from 1921 to 1933. After they sold the store, she worked as a clerk at Webb’s department store in Glendale for several years and later became a senior clerk in the Los Angeles County auditor’s office.

Mrs. McCollum was a longtime member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Tujunga Chapter No. 445 and a past loyal matron on the Order of Amaranth, Verdugo Hills Court No. 76.

She is survived by her sons, Jack Bloore of Santa Clarita and Charles Bloore of Sun City. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary, 314 E. Harvard St., Glendale, which is handling the services. Burial will be private.
