Anti-Abortion Protesters Get Terms Up to 215 Days

A Los Angeles Municipal Court judge on Monday gave nine Operation Rescue members convicted of charges stemming from a blockade of an abortion clinic sentences ranging from probation to 215 days in jail.

Judge Patti Jo McKay also ordered that at least one protester be barred from early release.

Members of the militant anti-abortion group, upset by what they called unjustifiably harsh sentences, said they plan to ask the Council on Judicial Performance to review McKay’s work.

The nine anti-abortion activists were among 240 arrested last April at a demonstration outside the Family Planning Associated Clinic Medical Group in Los Angeles. The activists are being tried in groups of 10. More than 150 still await trial.
