Countywide : Board of Education Names New Officers

The Orange County Board of Education has selected a new president and vice president/clerk for the 1990-91 fiscal year, county Supt. of Schools Robert Peterson announced.

The five-member board unanimously elected Dean McCormick president and Judith Ackley vice president/clerk for one-year terms ending in July, 1991.

McCormick, elected to the board in 1976 as the representative of Trustee Area IV, which includes Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Mission Viejo, El Toro, Yorba Linda and portions of Orange and Tustin, replaces Elizabeth Dorn Parker. He is currently serving his fourth term on the board.

McCormick, who is employed as a transportation executive, has also served on school boards of the Tustin Elementary and Tustin Unified districts and is a past president of the California County Boards of Education.

Ackley, elected in 1986 as representative of Trustee Area I, covering Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Westminster, replaces Sheila Meyers.

A resident of Santa Ana since 1968, Ackley, an English professor at Orange Coast College, is serving her second term on the county board. She also serves on the Orange County Commission on the Status of Women.
