Monrovia : Water Rate Increase OKd

Share

The City Council approved an 8% increase in water rates Tuesday, blaming four years of drought for driving up the price of water.

Robert Sandwick, the city’s director of public works, said water pumped by the city from the San Gabriel underground basin has fallen below acceptable levels and had to be replenished with costly water purchased from the Metropolitan Water District.

City officials estimate that for the average residential family of four, the new rates will mean an increase in monthly water bills of $1.68.

Meter and service charges, fire hydrant rental and miscellaneous rates will remain the same.

Monrovia’s rates, with the increase, are slightly below the average of other San Gabriel Valley communities, Sandwick said.
