Inglewood Loses Bid for Rose Parade

Inglewood’s attempt to enter a float in next year’s Tournament of Roses Parade has wilted.

The Pasadena-based parade association has notified the city that it already has enough floats for the 1991 parade, Inglewood spokeswoman Pam Thigpen said Wednesday. “We’re going to try again next year,” she said.

A spokeswoman for the parade said new entries are accepted only when current participants drop out. All but eight of the 61 participants in this year’s parade plan to return. She said Inglewood was one of 25 applicants.

The City Council agreed in February to spend $150,000 to fund a float for the annual New Year’s Day parade. Inglewood officials said the float would give the city an opportunity to show off the All-America City award it won last year from the National Civic League.

Inglewood participated in the parade 15 times between 1916 and 1978 and won four awards for its entries in the 1950s.
