A drawing will be held to decide who will receive tickets for a $250-per-person fund-raising flight aboard a jetliner to mark the opening of the new terminal at John Wayne Airport, the Orange County Aviation Council said.

Flight 1990, a one-hour ceremonial sky tour above the county on Sept. 8, coincides with the dedication of the new $62-million passenger terminal and an open house.

The terminal will begin commercial use on Sept. 16, airport officials said.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the flight will be used to defray costs of the new terminal’s dedication day ceremonies, with any surplus donated to the Airport Art Endowment Fund.

The Boeing 757 to be used for the flight will be furnished by American Airlines and is scheduled to depart at 10 a.m., after an 8:30 a.m. buffet breakfast in the new terminal.

There will be a limit of two seats per applicant in the ticket drawing, officials said, with no requests honored after Aug. 10. There are 158 seats available.

To apply, council spokesman Joseph E. Irvine said, make checks payable to Flight 1990 Fund and send them to William R. Hughes at KPMG Peat Marwick, 650 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa, Calif. 92626.

The drawing will be held during a luncheon at the Irvine Marriott on Aug. 21, officials said.
