Walter Cronkite, an avid sailor, took to the waters of San Diego Bay as the narrator of a video documentary on pollution.

“Clean air and clean water should be a birthright,” Cronkite said after working Wednesday aboard the 68-foot yacht of naval architect Art DeFever.

“Anybody who gets out in nature understands . . . what the problems are. I’m just another Joe out there worrying about what’s going on,” he said.

Cronkite, 73, who owns his own yacht, donated his time to the documentary, “Marine Pollution in San Diego--It’s All of Us.”

The video is sponsored by the nonprofit San Diego Oceans Foundation, which hopes to get it aired this fall on television. It also will be made available to schools and organizations.
