Colleen Johnston; Accountant

Colleen Johnston, a San Fernando Valley accountant and graduate of Cal State Northridge, has died in Granada Hills. She was 40.

A resident of Arleta, Mrs. Johnston died Tuesday of complications from a brain tumor, said her husband, Richard Johnston.

Born Colleen Mahoney on Sept. 21, 1949, in Tucson, Ariz., she came to California with her family as a child. She was a 1967 graduate of Monroe High School in Sepulveda and received a bachelor’s degree from CSUN in 1980. During the past decade, Mrs. Johnston worked for several accounting firms in the valley, including Stevens, Davidoo & Nenney in Encino, where she was an accounting staff supervisor for the past four years.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years; a daughter, Jaime Lynn Johnston of Arleta; her mother, Yvonne Mahoney of Panorama City; a brother, Michael Mahoney of Canoga Park; and sisters Tracy Mahoney of Panorama City and Judy Paysinger of Sylmar.

Visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Praiswater Funeral Home, 5849 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys. A vigil service is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday and a Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, both at St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, 14061 Roscoe Blvd., Panorama City. Donations can be made in Mrs. Johnston’s name to the City of Hope.
