‘View From the Library’--a Response
What prompted columnist Robert A. Jones’ fit of Yorba Linda-bashing in your July 17 issue?
Jones devoted three-fourths of his article to describing the city as being “in the bowels of Orange County,” riddled with “Pollo Locos and the Laundromats,” located in some “urban mush” that was “somewhere south of Pomona.” The city is justifiably proud of the Nixon library. I grew up in the neighboring city of Fullerton, and I’m proud that North Orange County is getting long-overdue recognition.
When The Times does cover Orange County, it seems to be fascinated only with the affluent South County area. I’m sure Robert A. Jones loves the homogenized beauty of Mission Viejo’s planned communities, the hipness of Laguna Beach, the dazzle of Newport Beach, and so on.
Better yet, let your columnist just stick to writing about West L.A. That way, he won’t have to cross the county line.
