Foul Costs Mi Selecto Win; Entrymate Is Given Victory
The Angel Penna-trained entry of Montubio and Mi Selecto ran 1-2 in Saturday’s $403,300 Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont Park, although investigation of a foul claim prompted stewards to switch the order of finish.
Mi Selecto, ridden by Jerry Bailey, finished the 1 1/2 miles a head in front of Montubio, with Jacinto Vasquez in the saddle.
Vasquez claimed foul against Mi Selecto, and patrol films used to decide the complaint showed Mi Selecto bearing out under left-handed whipping and impeding Montubio.
De Roche, the odds-on favorite, was third in the seven-horse field.
