Hunter Supports Roache for Sheriff

U. S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Coronado) declared his support Wednesday for Jim Roache’s bid to succeed longtime Sheriff John Duffy.

“I admire Jim Roache’s courage to step forward and challenge the current administration. He will bring the necessary changes and improvements to our county’s top law enforcement agency,” Hunter said in a prepared statement.

Roache is a Lemon Grove sheriff’s captain who captured 32% of the vote in last month’s primary. He and Assistant Sheriff Jack Drown will compete in a November runoff to become San Diego County’s first new sheriff in two decades.

Drown, who received 28% of the vote, recently announced he was taking a three-month leave of absence to devote himself full time to the campaign. Drown has Duffy’s backing, which includes a considerable fund-raising network.
