A transient who participated in the murder of an 84-year-old man who repaired bicycles was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years to life in state prison.
Robert Miller, 41, also received a $1,000 fine from San Diego Superior Court Judge H. Ronald Domnitz for the Jan. 2 slaying of Romie Hall, known as the “Bicycle Man” in Southeast San Diego.
Hall suffocated after he was bound and gagged during a robbery in his home, Deputy Dist. Atty. Gordon Davis said.
Davis said authorities believe there was another person with Miller at the scene, but that they do not know his identity.
On June 13, the eve of his trial, Miller pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
The victim’s car was found in flames in a vacant lot several hours after the slaying. Taken from his residence were a television set, microwave oven, can opener and $8 in cash, Davis said.
Hall, a widower, repaired bicycles and sold them in his front yard.
