Five artists, two from Orange County, have been awarded California Arts Council Artist-in-Residence grants to work in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Under the grant category’s Artists for Special Constituents subdivision, Mary-Linn Hughes of Huntington Beach was awarded $10,400 to continue workshops for people with AIDS at Laguna Shanti in Laguna Beach, and Joan E. Popovich-Kutscher of Pomona was awarded $9,300 to teach art at Santa Ana’s Taft Hearing Impaired School. Under the Artists in Communities subdivision, Manuel Yanez and Hernan Pinilla of Los Angeles were awarded $5,400 to collaboratively teach music throughout the San Juan Capistrano Regional Library system and writer Richard Garcia of Seal Beach was awarded $8,600 to lead youth poetry workshops at the Long Beach Museum of Art.
